BAAS Technologies Achieves Key Milestone in Propulsion Development
Jaipur, March 2026: An aerospace startup incubated at the Atal Incubation Centre – JK Lakshmipat University (AIC-JKLU), BAAS Technologies Private Limited, has successfully conducted a static fire test of its solid rocket motor at a secured facility within JK Lakshmipat University in Jaipur. The test marks a significant milestone in the startup’s ongoing propulsion system development.
The test was carried out on a reinforced test stand equipped with calibrated load cells, enabling accurate measurement of thrust output and chamber pressure during the burn under real operational conditions.
Test Validates Motor Performance and Ignition System
The static fire test aimed to validate several critical components of the propulsion system, including the structural integrity of the motor casing under pressure, thrust performance data collection, and the reliability of the company’s in-house wireless ignition system.
A key highlight of the test was the successful triggering of the wireless ignition system from a distance of 500 meters. The ignition sequence proceeded as planned, initiating a controlled hot fire test that demonstrated effective system integration and operational readiness.
Nozzle Clogging Leads to Pressure Surge During Burn
During post-test analysis, engineers observed nozzle clogging during the burn phase, which led to a sudden spike in chamber pressure. The surge generated a peak force of approximately 36 kN, exceeding the structural tolerance of the motor casing and causing delamination of carbon fiber threads.
Despite the structural failure under peak pressure conditions, the test produced valuable data for further refinement of the propulsion system. Engineers are currently analysing the recorded thrust and pressure data to improve structural integrity, nozzle flow dynamics, and overall motor reliability.
Startup Founder Highlights Learning from the Test
Commenting on the development, Tanmay Kanmahale, Founder of BAAS Technologies, said the test provided crucial insights for future design improvements.
“Every test, whether successful or challenging, gives us critical insights. This static fire test helped us validate our ignition system and gather important data that will guide the next iteration of our motor design,” he said.
AIC-JKLU Supports Indigenous Aerospace Innovation
Nidhi Kachhawa, CEO of AIC-JKLU, emphasised the importance of rigorous experimentation in advanced propulsion technologies.
“The static fire test by BAAS Technologies Pvt. Ltd. reflects the importance of rigorous testing and continuous learning in advanced propulsion development. At AIC–JKLU, we are proud to support startups pushing the boundaries of indigenous aerospace innovation,” she said.
Next Phase: Design Improvements and Further Testing
Following the test, BAAS Technologies has conducted a preliminary failure analysis and initiated design enhancements. The engineering team is currently re-evaluating the nozzle geometry and overall motor configuration to reduce clogging risks and better regulate chamber pressure.
The improved motor design is expected to undergo another round of static fire testing within the next three to four months, after completing structural upgrades and design iterations.
Through iterative testing and data-driven engineering, the startup aims to strengthen its propulsion capabilities while prioritising safety, reliability, and high-performance aerospace development.
